Abstract

The aim of this paper is to trace the biography and show the social use of small papier-mâché objects belonging to the Japanese takamatsu-hariko tradition preserved in the Ethnological Museum of Barcelona. By studying them, we will see its representative and symbolic role in the Japanese female universe(s), and we will be able to access legends, ancient traditions and customs related to the female imagery.
