Abstract

The article is an effort to conceptualise capoeira as an emotional community which is built with a basis in the interrelation of human and non-human components, such as: the music, the myths, the instruments, the body, and the people who make up the ritual of the roda de capoeira. As such, based on ethnographic research and on the analysis of other narrative materials, the objective of the article is to describe how the emotional communities within a group of contemporary capoeira people are built, taking as an example the emotional and cultural construction of the behaviour that the people must manifest in order to express that they have dendê.
